A couple random thoughts:

The U.S. is full of folks who care deeply about their food: where it comes from, how it was grown/raised, what effects it has on health, etc. I'm not one of them, but there are plenty. Wonder how many of these folks care about where their drugs come from? What barrios and favelas are being supported by the trade? Who's getting killed... Which police and government officials are being corrupted... Which person or child happens to be in the wrong place when the bullets start flying...?

If there's anything to totally rearrange your life around because of undesirable means of production or side-effects, wouldn't it be halting any kind of support for the drug trade? At least with feedlots and Big Macs there are some benefits to people involved. I can't see any with drugs, other than to the cartel leaders.

#2: Is public housing really necessary? Don't we have zillions of illegal immigrants finding shelter the old fashioned way: finding a place they can afford and paying money for it? Given all the pitfalls with documentation and background checking, they'd have a much harder time finding a place than a person born in America. Yet they do it all the time.
